Announcing the Annual 2009 Chinese Art Competition

Thursday, December 18, 2008

By Hunter Ross, Staff

MEMPHIS, Tennessee --- The Belz Museum of Asian & Judaic Art will hold its 5th annual Chinese New Year art competition, "The Ox Works Hard in 2009."  The contest is open to any student currently in kindergarten through the 12th grade. Because 2009 is the Year of the Ox in the Chinese zodiac, all artwork should incorporate an ox along with some form of Chinese symbolism.  Please see the entry form for complete rules and directions.

The deadline for entries is Friday, January 23, 2009, and they should be delivered to the museum by this date.  All submissions will be displayed in the museum beginning Saturday, January 24.  The public is encouraged to vote their favorite pieces during the week of January 24th to the 31st.  Voting ends during the Belz Museum's annual Family Day on the 31st at 2:00pm. The winning entries will then be presented at the conclusion of Family Day at 3:00pm.

Winners will be chosen from four categories based upon current school level.  In addition to receiving prizes, the winners will have their pieces displayed at the Belz Museum during the Chinese New Year.  All participants are welcome to attend Family Day where they can receive free admission, participate in crafts, and learn about Chinese art and culture.  More information about Family Day 2009 will be published soon.

Contact the museum with any questions or for more information at (901) 523-ARTS.
