MEMPHIS, Tenn. --- The Belz Museum of Asian & Judaic Art has collaborated with The Confucius Institute at the University of Memphis to present "Four Treasures of the Study," exhibiting the fundamental tools of a traditional Qing dynasty Chinese scholar.
The exhibit features two display cases featuring the Four Treasures: brushes, ink sticks, ink stones, and paper. Only through these four tools can the Chinese painter or calligrapher create the beauty of Chinese art. They embodied the shared wisdom, traditions, and values of the Chinese literati who governed China for more than two millennia as part of the past civil service examinations.
The exhibit will be available for viewing September 9 through December 12, 2008, on the 2nd floor of the Ned R. McWherter Library on the University of Memphis campus with the support of the University Libraries. For more exhibit information visit belzmuseum.org or call (901) 523-ARTS.
